Make Monday your best day: Monday Motivation (and 32 quotes) (2024)

Do you know what people find weirder than putting milk first before cereal? Loving Monday. So I guess I’m a weirdo now because I have epic Monday Motivation! In fact, it’s my favorite day of the week even before I retired because:

  • I always try to spice it up! Every Monday, I do something new like playing video games before going to work or reading a book for an hour. So it’s never the same old thing for me.
  • I see it as a starting point. Do you know how people always say they’ll change tomorrow? The problem is that tomorrow never comes. Monday gives me a solid deadline to form a habit.
  • I’m 1-week closer to acheiving my awesome and motivating financial goals.
  • It’s just exciting. The new stuff I’m doing makes things super exciting. And who knows what’s going to happen this week?

Still down on Mondays? Here are a few things you can do

1 – Don’t tire yourself out on Sundays.

Since you only have full days for your non-work stuff, it’s tempting to pack in all the fun in one weekend. But don’t. Most likely, you’ll feel like hell on Monday and see it as a curse of the gods for making it to adulthood.

What’s happening here is basic classical conditioning. Eventually, you learn to associate the crappy feeling with Monday even if you just rested all weekend.

You have 52 weekends plus holidays. Distribute your activities more evenly.

2 – Reward yourself for making it to Monday.

This is my version of reverse UNO-ing myself to eventually loving Mondays. Instead of dreading going to work, I find something exciting to do.

But it doesn’t have to be an activity. If you want, you could have your favorite breakfast every Monday. Find what motivates you to get out of bed.

By creating a reward, you have something to look forward to.

3 – Think of it as just another day.

Because really, that’s just what it is. If the work week started on Tuesday, we’ll all have jokes about how much we hate it.

You already know that for me, Monday is so much more than that.

But if you really can’t get yourself into the loving Monday bandwagon I’m forming, you should at least be neutral about it. What did Monday ever do to you, anyway?

Just focus on what you have to do, and make it to the next weekend. The alternative would be seeing Monday as just five days from the weekend.

4 – Figure out why you hate Monday and transform that into motivation.

Garfield doesn’t deserve to be the role model of anyone wanting to achieve financial freedom. Besides, you have more potential and control over your life than a fat, sarcastic, orange Persian Tabby.

So stare the problem at its face: why do you hate Monday?

I think that for many people, it’s because they have to work instead of living on a perpetual weekend when they can do whatever they want. That’s why you never hear retired people hate Monday.

So if you’re nowhere near retirement, you’d still have a lot of Mondays to endure. You may crack under pressure so do something about it now.

The reason you hate Monday can be exactly why you’ll learn to love it. For example, if you hate traffic, you’ll look forward to that Monday when you can just stay at home.

And let’s face it: not everybody gets their dream job because there’s not enough job openings for cop-slash-pirate-slash-ninja. It’s time to let that dream die.

At the very least, you should think of your job as a vehicle that will eventually get you to early retirement. So my advice?

Always look at the bright side! Every Monday, you’re a week closer to financial freedom.

Have you seen how kids will count the days to their birthday or to the holidays? Adopting that mindset will help you a lot with seeing Mondays differently.

The only way to get to your long-term financial goals is by taking action. I’ve talked about how important a job is in creating capital that you can invest and eventually retire on. So really, this is part of the work you have to put in.

Believe me, you’ll get there. You’re always one Monday closer to financial freedom and early retirement. Happy Monday!
